OK – so first: Saturn. Let’s talk about how Saturn works in your life.
Saturn is one of the most feared & least understood cycles in all of Astrology. Many people see Saturn’s power as disciplinary action (and that sounds about as good as a root canal on a sunny summer day) to create change in one’s life, but what if Saturn were seen as a more important GUIDE of our grown-up self? The somewhat crusty (yet loveable) teacher who barely gave us a smile, but when they did, it lights up a room? To that end, let’s cast Saturn as a Sacred Initiation and the part of you that marks time as opportunity, not rough course correction. Sure, there’s a bit of discipline involved, but you’re really the one with the Soul’s roadmap.

The one who has places to go and people to see…and dammit, you’re gonna do it well!

Now that we’ve rebranded Saturn, I’m going to show you how that shift of perspective can help you in big (and small) ways. To start, instead of focusing on the 29 ½ year cycle (known as the Saturn Return), let’s zoom in on the cycles leading up to those major milestones. Then, I’ll show you what I mean by Saturn leaves a gifty when he moves out.

The Saturn Cycle: The Architecture of Your Life

  • Full cycle: ~29.5 years
  • Each quarter phase: ~7–7.5 years
  • Key turning points:
    • Opening Square (~age 7) (and ~36–37, ~66–67)
    • Opposition (~age 14–15) (and ~43–45, ~73–75)
    • Closing Square (~age 21–22) (and ~50–52, ~80–82)
    • Saturn Return (~29–30)

Then the cycle repeats at higher levels of responsibility and awareness.

I. The Opening Square – Saturn Transit Square Natal Saturn

Theme: First Contact with Reality

This is the first “test” of the cycle. You’re moving out of pure instinct and into your first brush with authority and structure. Pay attention to which signs and Houses are impacted by this square: it will help to know the energy and the parts of your life that are in *tension* with each other.

  • You become aware of rules, authority, expectations
  • There’s often a moment of realizing: “I have to do things I don’t want to do”
  • Responsibility begins forming your identity

Psychologically: This is when the ego meets limitation.

In adult cycles (36–37, 66–67):

  • You hit a pressure point: “Is what I’ve built actually working?”
  • Life demands adjustment, not comfort

How to work with it:

  • Don’t resist structure—refine it
  • Identify what’s not sustainable and start correcting it early
  • Build discipline instead of waiting for crisis

👉 This phase asks: “Are you willing to grow up into your next level?”

II. The Opposition Phase – Transiting Saturn Opposition Natal Saturn

Theme: Confrontation & Identity Testing

This is the halfway point of the cycle—and it’s intense. It brings in the energy of the sign opposition as well. We’ve long talked about balancing the polarity of the two signs and in this case, it’s the energy of the opposition that will help you navigate it best. The Houses also show you what part of life is being activated.

  • You face a mirror: what you’ve built vs. what’s true
  • There’s often rebellion, tension, or a breaking point
  • You become aware of the gap between:
    • Your authentic self
    • Your conditioned life

At 14–15:

  • Identity crisis, separation from authority (parents)

At 43–45 (midlife checkpoint):

  • Classic midlife reckoning
  • Career, relationships, purpose all come under review

How to work with it:

  • Be radically honest: what is no longer aligned?
  • Don’t numb or avoid—this phase demands truth
  • Course-correct boldly, even if it’s uncomfortable

👉 This phase asks: “Is this life actually yours?”

III. The Closing Square: Transiting Saturn squares your natal Saturn again

Theme: Crisis of Commitment

This is the final push before the Saturn return. Reflect on which signs and Houses are involved in this *tension*.

  • Reality demands: choose your path
  • You can’t stay in indecision anymore
  • You must either:
    • Commit to your current direction
    • Or dismantle and rebuild

At 21–22:

  • Career direction, independence, adulthood choices

At 50–52:

  • Second major life restructuring (often tied to legacy, purpose)

How to work with it:

  • Get serious about what you’re building
  • Cut what’s draining or misaligned
  • Make decisions based on long-term integrity, not short-term comfort

👉 This phase asks: “What are you actually building with your life?”

By working with the Saturn Cycle, you’re embracing and harnessing its power and energy. By the time you reach your Saturn Return, you’ll have practice and have built resiliency. The gifty that Saturn leaves is built into the practice and the discipline….they are their own reward. They leave you much more adept and capable, ready to embrace the opportunities that
appear on your path moving forward.

It is here I will extend an invitation: on May 26 & 27, I will be taking you through the upcoming North Node shift into Aquarius, South Node shift into Leo. I will chart all the aspects to this major Astrological Call to Action and show you how to work with it in your life. The overall themes for society will become more pronounced and intense and it’s likely we’ll need to band
together to embrace the Age of Aquarius sooner rather than later. Are you ready to step into your Calling as Spiritual leadership? If so, jump on board!
