We have talked for – quite literally – YEARS about Astrology and how your natal chart can reveal major strengths, lessons and opportunities for growth. Now, I’m going to show you how you can use your birth chart to expand & embrace your life, delve deep into relationships, find fulfillment in areas of your life you may have thought just weren’t working all that well. Specifically, I want to talk about the possibility that TOO MUCH of something is not necessarily a good thing….and may be the culprit that blows apart something good or meaningful. What I am referring to is exalted planets. Where a planet has extra power.
What? Not all planets are the same power in everyone’s chart? Nope. Not even close.
Sometimes, the exalted planet can even make trouble for you (and by trouble I mean blow stuff up) and make things get out of hand. By knowing this little astrological best kept secret I have found you can even assess the possible narcissistic traits in another person, giving you a more well-rounded explanation of who they are, before you get in too deep. Every planet in your natal birth chart represents a specific archetype or an energetic force that influences your personality. For example, the Sun represents your identity and your egoic self while the Moon represents your emotions and your inner world. Each planet then is in a sign of the Zodiac and that sign either makes the planet stronger, weaker, or neutral – meaning this part of your energetic force might not show up as an issue – or a blessing – in your life or relationships. So, one person can have a super strong Jupiter but a weak Sun, making them a bit invisible but lucky as hell.
The level of power each planet has is called Essential Dignities and the planets in their EXALTED place can indicate it’s highest power and expression. That’s a good thing, right? Well, sometimes. A planet that’s exalted That can also mean it’s kinda extra and heightened – a Sun in Aries, for example, can lead someone into thinking they are the only person who can run a business or lead a campaign.
The blindness to other’s gifts and talents can get the Sun in Aries person into a lot of trouble – if they don’t realize it’s strength – and even get one fired. I bring this up to you so you can see if you have any of your birth chart planets (they don’t have to be in any of the four categories of essential dignities – exalted, fall – opposite sign of exalted, domicile – in the sign of their rulership – or detriment/exile – the opposite of their rulership) in exalted placement.
Here’s a chart to help you find out:
Sun rules Leo – but it’s exalted (extra power) in Aries
Moon rules Cancer – but is exalted in Taurus
Mercury rules both Virgo and Gemini – but is exalted in only Virgo
Venus rules both Taurus and Libra – but is exalted in Pisces
Mars rules Aries – but is exalted in Capricorn
Jupiter rules Sagittarius – but is exalted in Cancer
Saturn rules Capricorn – but is exalted in Libra
Uranus rules Aquarius – but is exalted in Scorpio
Neptune rules Pisces – but is exalted in Leo
Pluto rules Scorpio – but is exalted in Aries
Now – this may seem a bit random to you: why these signs? Each of these planets show up as the highest expression of the planet’s energy (while the rulership is the most effective expression of their energy). That word effective kinda says it all for me….planets in their exalted placement sometimes aren’t effective meaning they can get out of control.
EXTRA, indeed.
Let’s take an example of one that I find the most confusing: Saturn is exalted in Libra. Isn’t Libra all about balance? How does Saturn run the show if everything is balanced all the time? Well, that’s because Libra isn’t balanced all the time – Libra seeks balance. It then makes sense to my why having Saturn in Libra could be a real Superpower: Saturn will make things structured to support that seeking of balance. It can get too controlling, however, and demand that everything work out exactly as Saturn sees fit – that, my friend, is EXTRA. That placement means
that person has an opportunity to be extra….shows up as a controlling personality, especially in relationships (Libra – meaning the other). If you’re aware of this placement in your own chart, you can use this energy to your benefit. If you see it in someone else’s chart, you know there’s this energy lurking and you’ll pay attention – just in case.
Let’s take another: Uranus in Scorpio. I get that Uranus loves change and innovation, but DEATH (Scorpio’s wheelhouse)? Nope…not necessary. Uranus loves innovation and change to move us forward – not all changes do that. Someone with Uranus in Scorpio can draw some pretty tough boundaries and throw down some incredibly austere conditions when the need for innovation or forward movement is blocked. Trust seems to be the underpinning of this nature, meaning Uranus in Scorpio people can have the propensity for oh, I’ll just do it myself – you are useless! — that’s a tough place to be, but I digress. Uranus loves change and Scorpio is cool with that. Transformation for spiritual growth can be a real superpower. Just don’t cross this person or watch out. That’s EXTRA.
For you, take a look at your planets in your birth chart, see what signs they are in and see if you have any opportunity for extra in your life. Also, be sure to take a look at the charts of new romantic or career relationships – I maintain that knowing this little chart secret can save you years of time.
